Eye Exam for Kids - Eye exams for children are extremely important, because 5 to 10 percent of preschoolers and 25 percent of school-aged children have vision problems. Early identification of a child’s vision problem can be crucial because children often are more responsive to treatment when problems are diagnosed early.
According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), infants should have their first Comprehensive eye exam at 6 months of age. Children then should have additional eye exams at age 3, and just before they enter Kindergarten - at about age 5 or 6.
Children’s eye exams are important to ensure normal vision development. Vision is closely linked to the learning process. Children with undetected vision problems often will have trouble with their schoolwork. Many times, children will not complain of vision problems simply because they don’t know what "normal" vision looks like.
If your child is performing poorly at school, be sure to have his or her eyes examined. Call us to schedule your appointment.
Contact Lens Examination - If you need corrective lenses, you can be fitted for contacts. We will properly fit your eyes and make sure the contact fits the shape of the eye. We have several Specialty Lenses for those with dry eyes, Astigmatism, Bifocals and even for those hard to fit patients. We use all of the major brands contacts available, and have access to custom lenses for those who require that
Treatment of Eye Diseases - We treat all eye diseases from Pink eye to Glaucoma.
We Treat and Monitor your Ocular Condition to make sure you maintain the best possible vision. We work with all affiliate specialties in Eye Care to ensure you are getting the best care possible. We offer several treatment plans, surgeries, and corrective lenses to improve and treat your needs.
LASIK Consultations - You can receive a FREE consultation in our office to see if LASIK is a good fit for you. At the consultation, we will confirm whether you are a candidate, explain the procedure and answer all of your questions. Even if you’re not ready now, it’s good to know if you decide at a later date. For those who are not a candidate, you may become one in the future, as new technology emerges, making it possible.
Low Vision Examinations - We use refractive methods to provide accurate low vision exams. We can screen for Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy and other Retinal Diseases that causes loss of vision.
Myopia/Accelerated Orthokeratology - Through Myopia Control, we can help slow down the progression of astigmatism and nearsightedness. Accelerated Orthokeratology is an alternative to typical refractive surgery (LASIK). We gently reshape your cornea to correct your vision while you sleep. In the morning, you take your shape lenses out and see clearly and crisp during the day.
Remember, eye examinations are an important part of health maintenance for everyone. Adults and kids should have their eye tested to keep their prescriptions current and to check for early signs of eye disease.
Kindergarten Exams: A new Illinois state law requires comprehensive eye exams for children starting school. The State of Illinois now requires all children, beginning kindergarten or first grade for the first time, or children who are transferring into Illinois from out of state, to have a comprehensive eye examination prior to starting school. The examination must be done by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. The results must be submitted to the school by the parents, on a form approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health. The examination may be done within one year prior to beginning school. This requirement begins with the 2008 school year and applies to all future years.
