Dr. Miki Kitahata

Our optometrists are well-known surgeons and doctors in the field. They have each studied carefully and earned higher degrees and licenses to practice in the eye-care industry. Our doctors treat all patients with professionalism and look forward to meeting you.

In 1986, Dr. Kitahata completed his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL and holds a Bachelor of Science from Loyola University of Chicago in Psychology.


He has been recognized several times from the Who's Who Registry and recently named as one of Americas Top Optometrist for 2013.  


Dr. Kitahata is Board Certified through the American Board of Optometry and has Certifications in the use of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents for the treatment of Ocular Diseases. His other specialties include fitting of all types of Contact Lenses, Management/Treatment of Ocular Diseases, Dry Eyes, and Refractive Surgeries such as Lasik.


Dr. Kitahata is a member of the American Optometric Association, Illinois Optometric Association and the Fox Valley Optometric Society.


Dr. Louis Probst, M.D.

Education / Training:

Dr. Probst completed his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Western Ontario where he received four awards from his peers for outstanding achievement. He was selected among Ophthalmologists across the North America for a Surgical Corneal fellowship in Corneal Transplantation and Refractive Surgery at the University of Minnesota.

Memberships / Affiliations:

Currently, Dr. Probst is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is a past Educational Director of the International Society of Refractive Surgery.

In 2005 and 2006, Dr. Probst was selected by his peers as one the Top 50 World Opinion Leaders in the Field of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. In 2004, Dr. Probst was awarded the Achievement Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and "Best Paper" awards at the annual meetings of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Canadian Ophthalmology Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.


Dr. Probst has given over 200 lectures and provides training to surgeons and eye doctors at refractive conferences throughout the World from Brazil to India. He has published over 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 70 book chapters and 6 textbooks on Refractive Surgery. As a leader in LASIK, he developed 10 instruments, specifically for Refractive Surgeons who performed LASIK procedures. Go to for more information.

Dr. Mark Rafferty

Dr. Mark C. Rafferty joined Dr. Kitahata’s practice in 1998.  He is a graduate of Aurora University with a BA in Biology.  He went on to Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL to earn his Doctor of Optometry Degree.  He was awarded the Aran Excellence in Ocular Disease Award at graduation.


Dr. Rafferty has extensive background in the treatment and management of Ocular Disease, having spent seven years in a large Ophthalmology Practice.  He also routinely fits sclera and mini-scleral contact lenses for the treatment of different sight limiting eye diseases.  He also has earned a fellowship in Orthokeratology which is the treatment of nearsightedness utilizing special rigid contact lenses that correct your vision while you sleep.  Upon awakening, you remove the lenses and you maintain good vision during waking hours.


Dr. Rafferty is a member of the American Optometric Association, Illinois Optometric Association and the Fox Valley Optometric Society, where he has held leadership roles.  He grew up in Wheaton and currently lives in St. Charles with his wife Peggy and their two young children.  He is active as a den leader for his son’s Cub Scout Pack and coaches youth sports.  He enjoys spending time at the family cabin in Northern Wisconsin.

Dr. Louis Probst is the National Medical Director for the well-known TLC, The Laser Eye Centers, the largest Laser Vision provider in North America. Dr. Probst is one of the most experienced surgeons throughout the world. He began performing LASIK Surgery in 1995 and has completed over 100,000 LASIK  procedures; 200 of those patients being other Eye Doctors. Dr. Probst has published over 50 articles in peer-reviewed publications, and designed 10 instruments for LASIK. With a practice dedicated 100% to LASIK, Dr. Probst is among the most respected and experienced LASIK surgeons in the world.


Dr. Probst only performs LASIK with the safest and most advanced technology called "Custom IntraLase" (iLASIK) that has been adopted by NASA and the US Military. Custom refers to the customized laser vision correction guided by the wavefront measurements of your eye. Custom has been shown to provide patients with a 10-20% better chance of achieving uncorrected 20/20 or better vision and better night vision as compared to conventional corrections. IntraLase refers to the "bladeless" all laser flap creation that has been shown to be 4-6 times safer than flap creation with the bladed microkeratome.
